Created at San Pietro di Scafati in 1963 by Luigi Cavallaro,  Cavallaro Prodotti Ortofrutticoli is still managed today by its founder and sons Giovanni, marketing manager, and Claudio, who is responsible for supplies. Initially, the company was involved in the cultivation and direct sale of a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. With the passing of time, however, the Cavallaro family has decided to devote their experience and knowledge in the agricultural field to the production, valorisation, promotion and preservation of a typical product of their area: the spring onion. And in the years this product has become a true brand for the company, as proof of the care and dedication that the Cavallaro family has devoted to its supply throughout the world. Cavallaro Prodotti Ortofrutticoli deals with the entire production chain for spring onions: sowing, cultivating, selecting, collecting, processing, packaging and marketing. As proof of our reliability, professionalism and passion, we use in the cultivation of our vegetables, we mention, on the one hand, the strength of relationships established with the other farms we work with and with customers, and on the other some official awards: in 2008, we were awarded the Global GAP certification, and in 2009 it was certified for the production of processing and packaging of nocerino spring onions DOP.

CULTIVATION

The Nocerino spring onion is a vegetable product typical of the agro Nocerino-Sarnese, a large area on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, and is very rich in mineral elements that form an almost unique, non-replicable humus. The combination between a fertile land and cultivated methodologies, perfected over decades in the field, is the secret of the Cavallaro family's production. Production that is carried out both on land owned by the family and by the companies with which the we have been working profitably for years and with which it shares the principles and values ​​of cultivating fruit and vegetables characterised by absolute quality excellence .

HARVESTING

The onion harvesting is carried out by whipping the seedlings with a spade or fork, making sure not to hurt the plants. 
The onions are said to be a biennial plant, but they are cultivated as an annual one, the onions are harvested before they flower. When the cane folds on its own it is time to pick up the onion, you can also confirm this by the yellowing of the stem. The harvesting must always be done before they begin to flower and develop the floral scape.

PROCESSING AND PACKAGING

The product processing operations are carried out entirely at the Cavallaro Prodotti Ortofrutticoli establishments, carried out by the company's staff following stringent quality and freshness control protocols. Depending on the needs of individual customers, the processed product is packaged in wooden, plastic or flowpack packs, and then stored immediately in a refrigerated area. Transportation is carried out by
refrigerated trucks.
